Care
The routines that matter most for this breed. Open one at a time.
Grooming
The Thai Bangkaew has a double coat that needs frequent brushing to clear loose fur and dirt. Brush weekly and bathe monthly or as needed. A rake comb and slicker brush work well, and a curry comb handles the undercoat to keep mats and tangles at bay. Avoid a style brush, which can damage the top coat.
These dogs are not especially prone to ear infections, but wipe the ears during regular grooming and keep an eye on them. Trim the nails every two to four weeks and provide regular dental care.
Exercise
The medium-energy breed needs moderate daily exercise. Provide long walks, hikes, vigorous backyard play, or supervised off-leash time in an enclosed area.
Given their prey drive and independent streak, keep them on-leash or in a securely fenced space. Puzzle toys add mental stimulation and give that active mind something to work on.
Training
Thai Bangkaews are intelligent, obedient, and eager to learn. They usually enjoy training with their owners and respond best to a gentle hand and positive reinforcement, with treats and favorite toys as rewards. Keep sessions enthusiastic and engaging without much repetition, or they lose interest.
Start training and socialization young. Introduce puppies to different people and environments while young.
The breed shows potential as a sport dog in venues like fastcat, scentwork, and possibly dock diving, given a natural affinity for water.
