Care

The routines that matter most for this breed. Open one at a time.

Nutrition

After weaning, feed a Slovensky Cuvac puppy food made for large-breed puppies and avoid overfeeding during growth. An adult doing more physical work needs more energy than an idle adult.

Choose food suited to the dog's life stage, and monitor weight and calorie intake. Keep unsafe human foods out of reach, and ask a veterinarian about weight or diet concerns. Fresh water should remain available at all times, including in freezing weather.

Grooming

The Slovensky Cuvac wears a thick double coat that sheds heavily, so plan on regular weekly brushing to manage loose hair and keep the coat healthy. An occasional bath keeps the coat clean and tidy.

The strong, fast-growing nails need regular trimming with a clipper or grinder. Stay ahead of overgrowth, splitting, and cracking.

Check the ears regularly and clear any buildup of wax and debris to help avoid infection. Brush the teeth regularly as well.

Exercise

A fenced yard can give a Slovensky Cuvac room to move, but even a large garden does not replace walks. One walk a day is not enough; several daily walks can anchor the routine.

Swimming is another option many Slovensky Cuvacs enjoy, while hiking and retrieving can add variety. Puppies and young dogs should not be overloaded with exercise.
