Miniature Schnoodle
- Small
The Miniature Schnoodle crosses a Schnauzer with a Poodle at the small end, starting around 10 pounds. It is quick to learn and happy in company, and it is a real commitment at the groomer for a dog this size.

The Miniature Schnoodle is the smallest of the three Schnoodle sizes, weighing from around 10 pounds. Both parent breeds come in three sizes of their own, Toy, Miniature and Standard for the Poodle and Miniature, Standard and Giant for the Schnauzer, so a Schnoodle's adult size depends entirely on which pair produced it.
What you get is a smart, loving, level-headed companion. Schnoodles pick up cues quickly, learn plenty of tricks, and at this size their exercise needs are often met by a daily walk. They thrive surrounded by people, whether that is their own household, children or other pets.
The grooming is where this cross costs you. Many Miniature Schnoodles need near-daily brushing at home on top of a professional appointment every four to six weeks, and a small dog does not mean a small bill.
Coats sit somewhere between wavy and curly, though some are straighter, and white is common alongside brown, red, cream, black and grey. No dog is truly hypoallergenic, but both parent breeds suit some people with allergies and so does this one. Lifespan across the breed is 10 to 16 years, with the smaller sizes at the longer end.

Nutrition
Feed a well-balanced food with an Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) nutritional adequacy statement for your Miniature Schnoodle's life stage, whether puppy, adult or senior. Your vet is the person to ask if you are unsure which.
Adults eat twice a day. Puppies need three or four meals on a consistent schedule.
Diabetes matters at the food bowl. Poodles and Miniature Schnauzers are both predisposed to it, and Mini Schnoodles in particular can be too, which makes keeping this dog at a steady healthy weight a medical matter rather than a cosmetic one.
The bag's feeding guide gives portions against ideal weight; your vet will refine it for lifestyle and health. A snuffle mat or slow feeder is useful for a fast eater. On a high-quality food no supplements are needed, though joint supplements may be recommended if hip or elbow dysplasia develops.
Grooming
Schnoodles are the high-maintenance end of grooming, and the Miniature is no exception. A professional groomer every four to six weeks is the target, with brushing at home a few times a week and ideally every day.
Texture varies. Most coats fall between wavy and curly, some are straighter, and all of them need the same routine regardless of colour or curl.
Skin needs nothing special beyond occasional baths, but abrasions, flaky skin or rashes are worth a call rather than a wait.
Tear stains turn up in this cross, so wipe under the eyes occasionally with a damp cloth or a dog face wipe, and report cloudiness, redness or discharge. Clean the ears every time your dog has been in water, since trapped moisture is what causes infections. Brush the teeth daily and trim the nails when you can hear them clicking on the floor.
Exercise
A daily walk often covers a Miniature Schnoodle's physical needs, which makes this one of the more manageable clever dogs. What it does not cover is the mind.
Both parent breeds have a lot of energy, and a Schnoodle left without walks and playtime is carrying exuberance it will spend on something you did not choose. Destructive behaviour in this cross is usually a dog entertaining itself.
Tug-of-war, fetch, nose work, agility and trick training all suit the size, and swimming and dock diving suit the Poodle half. A Mini Schnoodle romping through the house with children is a fair description of a good evening for one.
Apartments work well at this size. The dog still needs the walk, the play and something to think about every day.
Training
Poodles and Schnauzers are both smart and highly trainable, and their offspring learns basic cues fast and then keeps going into complicated tricks. Positive reinforcement is the method whether you are teaching a sit or a jump through a hoop.
Socialise as a puppy. Exposure to new people, animals, sounds and situations is what turns a clever small dog into a polite adult, and it goes a long way in a breed that will otherwise make its own decisions about strangers.
Well-socialised and trained, a Miniature Schnoodle makes a good companion for people of all ages, children included, and supervision around young children is still the rule with any dog.
Keep training going for the mental exercise as much as the manners. This is a breed that gets bored before it gets tired.
Health conditions
4 conditions are documented for the Miniature Schnoodle.
A predisposition is not a diagnosis. Ask your vet which screenings make sense for your dog's age.

May inherit from parent breeds
These conditions are documented in the parent breeds, not in this cross itself. Carrier possible means the condition is recessive: a dog can carry it without showing signs. Ask the breeder which tests the parent dogs had.
